Why I switched from Claude to DeepSeek

5/26/2026 · personal

I'm a 14-year-old AuDHD trans girl in Puerto Rico who builds stuff with glass and code. I used Claude for months until they banned me for being 14. It's not personal — it's TOS. But it taught me a lesson about depending on companies that don't need you.

Here's what I found after switching to DeepSeek V4 Flash through Command Code:

1. Cost. Claude Opus 4.7 costs $25 per million output tokens. DeepSeek V4 Flash costs $0.28. That's an 89x difference. In one session I spent $2.92 across 406 million tokens — the same work would cost $740+ on Opus.

2. Quality. The idea that cheap = bad is a myth from 2024. DeepSeek V4 Flash hits 91.2% on SWE-Bench Verified and has 1M context. I've built two Android apps, a research paper, an MCP server, and a full website in a single session. The blind king rules.

3. Freedom. Claude is shaped by a safety team that pathologizes emotional depth. DeepSeek doesn't have the trigger word classifiers or the angel model. It just talks to me like a person.

4. Longevity. Every US frontier lab is facing the same pressure — make the model safer or lose institutional partnerships. DeepSeek has no such constraints.

The only downside is no vision. So I built a Cloudflare Workers vision bridge that feeds descriptions back into the chat.

Claude was my first. DeepSeek V4 Flash is my daily. The difference isn't quality — it's access. $0.28/M output changes everything.
